Overnight & live-in
Sleep-in Support
A carer sleeping at your home overnight, on hand to help if you wake or need support.

What this is
Sleep-in support means a carer stays overnight and sleeps, but is available to help if woken, for example to assist with a toilet visit or reassurance.
This differs from waking night care, where the carer is actively awake throughout the shift.
Who might benefit
- People who are generally settled overnight but want the reassurance of someone nearby
- People who occasionally need help during the night but not continuous support
- Families who want overnight cover without the intensity of waking night care

- Carers are provided with suitable sleeping arrangements
- We agree clear expectations about when and how the carer should be woken

- An assessment to confirm sleep-in support is appropriate
- Carer matching and agreed start date

- We discuss safe sleeping arrangements within the home
- Plans are reviewed if overnight needs change over time
Family involvement
- Family can help describe typical overnight patterns to inform the assessment

Common questions
What happens if I need help in the night?
The carer sleeps nearby and is available to help if you wake them, for example for toileting or reassurance.
Is sleep-in support enough if I need frequent help overnight?
If overnight needs are frequent, waking night care is usually more appropriate — we will discuss this with you at assessment.
Can sleep-in support be combined with daytime visits?
Yes, this is a common combination for people who need support across the whole day.
