Two separate costs
In supported living, there are usually two separate costs: the cost of your housing (rent and any service charges) and the cost of your care and support. These are funded in different ways.
Housing costs
Housing in supported living is provided by a landlord or housing provider, not by the care provider. Housing costs are usually covered through a tenancy agreement, and may be met in part through Housing Benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit, depending on your circumstances.
Care and support costs
The cost of care and support — the help you receive with daily living — is usually arranged and, where eligible, funded by your local authority or NHS commissioner, following a needs assessment.
Why the distinction matters
Keeping housing and care funding separate protects your rights as a tenant and means a change in your care needs does not automatically affect your home. Care Angels provides care and support; we are not your landlord or housing provider.
Getting it set up
Your local council's social care and housing teams, together with the housing provider, can advise on how funding is arranged for a specific supported living setting.
Common questions
Does Care Angels provide the accommodation in supported living?
No. Care Angels provides care and support. Accommodation is provided by a separate landlord or housing provider under a tenancy agreement.
What if my care needs change?
Your care and support plan can be reviewed and adjusted by the commissioner, generally without affecting your tenancy.
