What a personal budget is

A personal budget is the amount of money a council identifies as needed to meet your eligible care needs, following a needs and financial assessment.

Ways to manage it

You can have the council arrange and pay for your care directly, take it as a direct payment to arrange care yourself, or use a mix of both approaches.

Why it matters

A personal budget can give you more choice and control over who provides your care and how, within the limits of what's needed to meet your assessed needs.

Keeping it under review

Your personal budget should be reviewed alongside your care plan, so it continues to reflect your needs over time.
